The Ultimate Asset

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life." -Steve Jobs

This piece of wisdom embodies common sense.

It’s no secret: time is the most valuable asset in the world.

The more time you have, the less you tend to appreciate its scarcity.

We can draw an analogy with health: it’s often overlooked until you’re sick.

We humans are programmed to fear loss more than we celebrate gains.

Psychology explains this quite simply.

You can always acquire more food or resources, but you can’t lose twice your life.

We're conditioned to fear loss more than celebrating victories.

We have 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week, and 8,736 hours a year.

Approximately 8 hours are spent sleeping, and many of us work a 9-5 job, leaving about 8 hours a day for personal growth and breaking free from the Matrix.

This might be less if you have multiple jobs or children.

The scarcity of your time should be an incredibly motivating factor for you.

That’s 2,912 hours a year you can invest in skills and knowledge.

That seems like a lot, doesn't it?

How are you utilizing it?

Netflix? Video games? Anime?

Come on, man.

Your time is limited.

As life progresses, this reality will become more evident.

If you waste it, you will pay a hefty price.

Consider it this way:

If you spend 30 minutes a day learning the guitar, that’s 182 hours a year.

Reverse-engineer what you want to achieve.

Want to become a better speaker?

Allocate an hour daily to practice speaking.

Aspiring to be a good copywriter?

Dedicate an hour daily to practice writing.

This applies to secondary skills.

You ought to be a Jack-of-all-Trades and a Master of One.

Find a skill to specialize in.

Aim for the magical 10,000 hours.

This notion might be intimidating at first; I used to be daunted by this number.

However, it breaks down into an investment of 3 to 4 hours a day for 7-8 years.

That's what it takes to become a master.

Here is my framework:

- 30 minutes a day = 182 hours a year

- 1 hour a day = 364 hours a year

- 2 hours a day = 728 hours a year

- 3 hours a day = 1,092 hours a year

- 4 hours a day = 1,456 hours a year

More than 4 hours is unnecessary.

To optimize your learning, split your 4 hours into 2 sessions of 2 hours each, one in the morning and the other in the evening. Alternatively, three sessions of 1 hour and 20 minutes are even better.

Strategize your approach.

Consistent daily practice is the most effective way to acquire a skill.

It will enhance the neuroplasticity of your brain, enabling your neurons to function more efficiently.

In a few months, you’ll notice a significant shift in how your brain operates within your favorite skill. Intrinsically, you will understand it much better.

You need to be a specialist with a wide variety of skill sets.

This is the only way to be irreplaceable.
